Herndon Takes the Loss in Gaithersburg, 10-4
June 15, 2017
GAITHERSBURG, MD – After rebounding from a loss two days ago with a win last night, the Braves returned to the loss column with a 10-4 loss to the Giants of Gaithersburg.
Unusual for Herndon on Thursday evening was the lack of offense in the early going, as scoring in the first inning seemed almost automatic as of late.
The first runs of the game, in fact, came as a result of Gaithersburg doing, as the team would post up two runs in the bottom of the third.
The Braves responded the next half inning, tying it up after a bases-loaded walk and sacrifice fly.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Giants exploded for five runs to take a 7-2 lead, a mid-game dagger that stifled the Herndon club for the remainder of the ballgame.
The Giants scored three more in the bottom of the sixth, extending their lead to eight and adding an abundance of insurance.
Despite having quite a hill to climb in the top of the ninth, the Braves managed to rally the offense for a pair of runs with a Cayden Stover RBI single and Dakota Graham hit-by-pitch, but it would prove too little as Gaithersburg would win comfortably atop a six-run cushion.
On the mound for the Braves, Austin Kunde and Randolf Flores were excellent as the team’s final two pitchers, as they would each throw an inning allowing just one total hit and three total strikeouts.
With the loss, the Braves drop to 5-5.
Herndon’s next game will be on the road tomorrow, June 16 against the Bethesda Big Train at Shirley Povich Field. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
