Devenney Sparks Herndon in Win Over Express
June 20, 2017
HERNDON, VA – Earning their second win in as many games, the Herndon Braves won Tuesday night’s contest against the Rockville Express in convincing fashion by a score of 8-0.
The Braves’ offense was once again ignited by the bat of Ciaran Devenney, whose night was highlighted by a homerun similar to his effort in Sunday night’s win against D.C. Additionally, the pitching staff was phenomenal, limiting the Express to just five hits.
Getting things started was Conner Hall, who, in the second inning, brought in Devenney with an RBI double to put the Braves up 1-0.
In the third, Richard Constantine matched Hall with an RBI double of his own, bringing in two runs to stretch the lead to 3-0.
Ciaran Devenney’s two-run home run would follow, making it 5-0.
In the fifth, the Braves continued to apply the pressure, as Chandler Miller’s putout allowed Devenney to score. Shortly thereafter, Hall continued his hot streak at the plate, driving a ball off the left field fence to earn himself an RBI double.
In the bottom of the sixth, Cayden Stover would put the Braves up 8-0 with a sacrifice fly that enabled Brett Norwood to cross home plate.
On the mound for the Braves, Bryce Nightengale was brilliant in his start, throwing six innings of shutout baseball while allowing just three hits and striking out a pair.
Also impressing on the bump was Randolf Flores, who threw two innings of relief, striking out three in the process.
With the win, the Braves improve to 8-6 on the season.
The club’s next game will be home contest against the Baltimore Redbirds at Oakton High School tomorrow at 7:00 p.m.
