Constantine Longball Not Enough in Loss to Baltimore

June 21, 2017

VIENNA, VA – On a picture perfect evening at Oakton High School, the Herndon Braves were unable to harness the Baltimore Redbird offense as the hometown team fell by a score of 13-8.

The Redbirds jumped out early in the top of the first with the game’s first run, but the Braves had answers in the bottom half, tacking on two runs thanks to a Richard Constantine home run that also brought in Nick Wheeler.

It seemed like both teams would begin trading runs, as Baltimore would proceed to add three runs in the top of the second to reclaim the lead at 4-2.

Herndon was unable to produce in the bottom part of the inning, and the Redbirds continued to apply pressure in the top of the third with another pair of runs.

The Braves continued to put up zeroes offensively, but the Redbirds insisted on added additional insurance, tacking on two runs in the sixth, and another trio in the seventh to make it 11-2.

Baltimore then added another run in the eighth and one final run in the ninth to extend the lead to 13-2.

Despite Herndon adding six runs in the bottom of the ninth as a last-ditch effort (Brett Norwood HBP, Nick Wheeler sacrifice fly, Alex Bernauer 3-RBI single and a Chandler Miller RBI single) the CRCBL North division leaders closed out the Braves for the victory.

On the mound for the Braves, Connor Jones was impressive in his relief appearance, pitching two innings and allowing just one hit.

With the loss, the Braves drop to 8-7 on the season.

The team’s next game will be tomorrow against the Silver Spring-Takoma T Bolts at Oakton High School. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
