Herndon Gives Up Early Lead in Loss to Rockville
June 9, 2017
ROCKVILLE, MD – On what seemed like a night where the Braves’ offense would carry them to victory, the hometown Rockville Express outslugged Herndon en route to an 8-4 win.
It took an only an inning for the Braves’ bats to heat up, as the lineup would push three runs across in the second frame. Michael Kuzbel brought Alex Bernauer in on a putout to the pitcher, and Brett Norwood would follow with a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch, allowing Nick Wheeler to cross the plate. Cayden Stover continued his early-season streak of success with an RBI single, making it 3-0 Herndon.
Rockville would not have an answer until the fifth inning, where they would score an unearned pair to make it a one-run game. Herndon responded swiftly in the top of the sixth with a run scored on a fielder’s choice, put into play by Wheeler.
For the second consecutive inning, Rockville put up a deuce on the scoreboard to tie it up at 4-4. The Express would then score four in the next inning for late-game insurance, sealing the 8-4 win.
On the mound for the Braves, Michael’s Geary start reflected a three-inning, three-hit effort that allowed zero runs and was highlighted by four strikeouts.
With the loss, Herndon’s record drops to 1-3.
The team’s next game will be tomorrow, Saturday June 10 as they take on the Baltimore Redbirds at Calvert Hall High School. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
