Aces Rout Braves in Sunday Matchup, 15-6

July 2, 2017

HERNDON, VA – There seemed to be no stopping Alexandria’s offense Sunday night, as they produced three four-run innings en route to downing Herndon by a score of 15-6.

To start the game, the Aces put up four runs after a pair of RBI hits and a defensive miscue.

The Braves scored their first run in the bottom half in explosive fashion, as Brett Norwood blasted a solo home run over the centerfield fence to cut the deficit to three.

Despite the glimpse of power, the Braves left the bases loaded to end the first, making way for another big inning for the Aces.

Alexandria posted a four-spot in the top of the second, flexing their muscles in the process, as two 2-run home runs pushed the score to 8-1.

Herndon was unable to respond until the third, where an Alex Bernauer RBI single would make it 8-2.

On their way to scoring four in an inning for the third time in the game, Alexandria belted a 3-run home run in the fourth to put the game out of reach for the Braves, as the scoreboard would reflect 12-2 after four complete innings.

In the bottom of the fifth, Herndon managed to garner another run, scoring on an Ace error to make it 12-3.

The Aces continued to hit, however, as back-to-back RBI hits would add a trio of runs to their already large sum.

Nick Wheeler’s infield single in the sixth enabled a run to cross the plate for the Braves, but it would help just slightly, as the score would remain 15-4 for two more innings.

Alexandria committed another error in the eighth, allowing a pair of runs to score. The 15-6 tally would prove to be the final score, as the Aces would close out the Braves in the ninth to secure their 20th win of the season.

With the loss, the Braves drop to 12-13 on the season.

The team’s next game will be tomorrow against the SS-T T Bolts on the road. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
