Braves end skid, beat Redbirds 4-2

July 9, 2017

HERNDON, VA- After the conclusion of the Braves and Redbirds suspended game where the Redbirds hit a walk off two-run home run, the teams met again 15 minutes later in a 9 inning matchup.  Desperately needing a win, the Braves sent out southpaw Garrett Lutkins to take the hill.

The lefty was terrific, facing the minimum over 3 innings while the Braves struck first on a solo shot to left field from Nick Wheeler in the 2nd inning. The next inning, Cayden Stover started the inning off on a walk and then proceeded to steal 2nd. The next batter, Stover took off towards 3rd and advanced home when a throw from the catcher sailed into left field, making it 2-0 Braves.

Collin Bazemore took over the hill in the 4th inning and was terrific in relief, earning the win. The only blemish on his day was a 2 out RBI single that scored a Redbird to make it 2-1 Braves. Bazemore also worked out of a big jam in the 6th inning when the Redbirds loaded the bases, only to have Bazemore strike out the Redbirds cleanup hitter looking to get out of the jam.

Alex Bernauer waited for the perfect time to hit his first round tripper of the season, a 2 run shot to dead center to double the Braves lead in the 6th.

Mitch Holloway was also terrific in relief, earning the save and escaping a bases loaded, one out situation with only allowing one run to come across.

With the win, the Braves end a six game losing streak, improving their record to 13-18 heading into the All Star Break.
